Dental Bridges in Garland, TX

When you have a damaged or missing tooth, you have a variety of restoration treatment options available at Prime Dental in Garland. One option that many of our patients have found great success with is a dental bridge procedure. What is a dental bridge, and why might you choose, or not choose such a procedure?

What is a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge is a restorative procedure, specifically a fixed dental prosthesis that fills in – or “bridges” – the gap left by a missing tooth. In the procedure, the teeth adjacent to the gap are first filed down. Then, your dentist will take an impression of the two adjacent teeth, and the gap between. This impression is then sent to a dental lab to prepare the bridge prosthetic which is usually made of color matched porcelain or more state-of-the-art materials like zirconium. This bridge is then fixed to the adjacent “anchor” teeth.

Are Dental Bridges Right for Me?

What are some reasons one may decide to get a dental bridge procedure? The most notable feature of getting a bridge is that they are long-lasting and aesthetically pleasing. The procedure is fairly simple compared to other procedures such as implants. This simplicity makes the process much quicker than implants, this procedure can be completed in only two office visits. After completion, a dental bridge fully restores the tooth’s normal functions, such as chewing. It also serves as a more affordable option to dental implants. Unlike dentures, that need to be removed on a regular basis to be cleaned, bridges remain in place permanently and do not require any sort of removal. One downside is that bridges are more difficult to clean than natural teeth or dental implants. This difficulty is due to the structure of bridges, the lack of space between the middle prosthesis and its adjacent teeth. Lastly, bridges serve as a quality alternative for those who do not qualify as candidates for a dental implant procedure.
